ABOUT BREAKFAST WITH DAD

This is Breakfast With Dad, a collection of devotions on books of the Bible that I send out to over 150 friends and family members. I hope you will take time to read the most recent blog and maybe one of two from past offerings. If you have an interest in studying the Bible or have been thinking about starting a daily devotion, this would be a good place to begin. I started writing these devotions when my youngest son moved away from home and was having a hard time in his life. I used to fix him a hot breakfast every morning before school, so I decided to send him spiritual food instead to encourage his heart. I hope these "breakfasts" encourage you.

Ephesians 3:20-21

Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Galatians 4:1-7 What I am saying is that as long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. He is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. So also, when we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world. But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.

God is doing more in us than we can imagine or ask. THROUGH AND IN CHRIST, He has made us adopted sons and daughters by bringing us his righteousness and his perfection. We cry out to God in confidence as ABBA, FATHER: my true father. He did not make us akin to Adam and Eve: his salvation plan brought us into the intimate family of God as adopted sons and daughters. We are not made as the angels, for his pleasure; we are part of him. Through the cross, his DNA is our DNA; we are new creatures capable of communing with God. Of course, this position in the family transcends anything we can conceptualize with our natural minds. To understand what it means to be a daughter or son in God's holy family is beyond our finite understanding, immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. We do not have the insight or the experiential perspective to understand being joint heirs with Christ. Paul said he knew a man who rose in the Spirit to the third heaven. When he came back, he could not even speak of what he saw because it was beyond human conceptualization: unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. (2 Corinthians 12:4) He lacked words or concepts to express the heavenly realm. A baby cannot comprehend the world he or she is born into and must trust in the goodwill and the care of the parents. When we choose to fall into God's hands, we are that baby, saying, "FATHER, FATHER, do what you will to me, for I know it will be good."

My dear brother and sister in Christ, God is doing more in you today than you can imagine. Christ's redemptive work not only made you righteous, but He made you an heir of the Most High. God is our inheritance. As He brings us into intimate fellowship, we are set free from the slavery of this world, no longer bound hand and foot by our finite and sinful nature. We are no longer alienated and lonely in a meaningless universe. The ETERNAL ONE has given us his divine nature. In Revelation John wrote that in heaven every tear shall be wiped away; every anxiety about existence will be satisfied. We will know then that we are HOME where God is and where we should be. We will know all things as God knows all things. We will be there IN CHRIST, part of God. This is the reality, the promise, of the GOOD NEWS. This inheritance belongs to us because of Christ and his abiding love for us. Because of his work on the cross, we are to God the aroma of Christ. (2 Corinthians 2:15)

Now, how should we walk in this reality? Realizing our position in Christ, we should walk by faith. Faith is the seed, the sperm, that brings new life in us and allows the embryo to grow. Faith quickens our hearts and minds with the reality that God is in us, for the Holy Spirit guides us and accompanies us on our journey through life. Faith opens our ears to hear and to understand the Spirit's comforting voice, allowing his words of entreatment to penetrate our innermost consciousness. Through the indwelling Holy Spirit, we hear, "Son, daughter, do not fear, for I am with you, even to the end." His nature becomes our nature; his talk becomes our talk. Faith in Christ Jesus unlocks the door to eternal realities. Christ is THE DOOR; He is THE WAY. New Testament believers gave their all to propagate THE WAY throughout the known world. Since Jesus is THE WAY, He is the means to sonship and daughterhood. No matter how good or miserable each day seems, remember that you are a child of the Most High who has already done immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. His power will be with you today, lifting you up into heavenly places, for he has made you a member of his family. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad in that knowledge.
