ABOUT BREAKFAST WITH DAD

This is Breakfast With Dad, a collection of devotions on books of the Bible that I send out to over 150 friends and family members. I hope you will take time to read the most recent blog and maybe one of two from past offerings. If you have an interest in studying the Bible or have been thinking about starting a daily devotion, this would be a good place to begin. I started writing these devotions when my youngest son moved away from home and was having a hard time in his life. I used to fix him a hot breakfast every morning before school, so I decided to send him spiritual food instead to encourage his heart. I hope these "breakfasts" encourage you.

Hebrews 11:2

Hebrews 11:2 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

This scripture confounds the wisdom of man. How can something be made from nothing? As we stretch our minds to understand this scripture, we begin to talk about energy: an amorphous force that can perform work. We try to bring the concept of building a universe out of nothing into a reality we can define or test. We want to bring God down to our thinking, to our domain. But Paul said when he was transported into the heavens in a vision, He heard inexpressible things. Even a spiritual man like Paul could not formulate in words what he saw in heaven. The idea of God, his majesty and his domain, remains at best inchoate in man's mind. Who can fathom the mighty God of Israel who built existence out of nothing, who flung the stars into space, and who sat down and conceived of billions of galaxies and stars? Who can bring this God down to our manner of thinking, to our mental gymnastics? No one except the One who has been with God: THE CHRIST. Jesus said, if you have seen me, you have seen the Father; if you know me, you know the Father. Jesus is the exact representation of THE FATHER GOD. We who are IN CHRIST are IN THE FATHER GOD, in his likeness, his image. What a wonderful hope, what a wonderful revelation.

Man's attempts to create a reality beyond this world amuse me. When describing space travel, people usually create images similar to life as we know it on Earth. In STAR WARS, for example, the creatures we meet in space reveal the authors' creativity, but they are limited to our finite minds, our earthly-bound imagination. We will never find God through man's creations. We will never know of his greatness through man's earthly imagination or knowledge. God does not exist in this domain. The Bible asks, who can know him? Job says, Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. (Job 42:3) Like Job, humans are bound by our own reality, captivated by our finiteness. But God sent Jesus end this separation, this bondage of not knowing the Creator of all things. Jesus said, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from. I am not here on my own, but he who sent me is true. You do not know him, but I know him because I am from him and he sent me.” (John 7:28-29) We know God because we know Jesus. We do not find God through a man, not even a great man such as Abraham, the father of faith. No, we find God through the Son of God, Jesus Christ. He is the door to God, the only door. No one will see God or walk with him unless they enter through the door. All others who claim to know the way to God are liars and traitors to God's word. They are the biblical thieves and robbers, stealing God's kingdom from his children.

By faith we understand God formed the universe at his command: He spoke creation into being. Period: the question is over, done with, put aside. When we use space discoveries or our imagination to teach our children about what lies beyond our existence, we lead them into confusion, disillusionment, and unbelief. Exploring the capabilities of the mind and our finite knowledge does not transport us into God's realm. When we trust in God, the Holy Spirit releases us from the mental bondage of having to know God through our senses and limited understanding of eternity. By the Spirit, we experience God through faith in Jesus Christ and acceptance of his sacrifice for sin. The world may see faith in Christ as nonsense or a myth. But Jesus turned the world upside down by exposing the devil's lies with God's truths and by making what seems weak nonsense our strength and our hope. In the natural, Jesus came in weakness as a helpless babe, and He left Earth in weakness at the cross. Yet through this supposed weakness, the Word became flesh and lived with us, bringing life to all who believe in his works, to all who place their total faith in him. The CREATOR of all existence brought life through death, victory over the flesh and the grave. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. Rejoice in him today and accept the freedom of fellowship with God through Christ and the Holy Spirit within you.
